Le Petit Hibou provides an Introduction to French through their preschool education for children ages 3 – 5 years old. This program is offered with 2 class options; Monday, Wednesday, Friday mornings and Tuesday & Thursday mornings.
Le Petit Hibou’s preschool programing offers children a welcoming, playful and stimulating environment that encourages expanding their general knowledge as well as social and language comprehension to help prepare them for their school career. We provide an Early Learning experience that encourages a child to become strong, capable and reach their full potential. Our rich program establishes the idea of pedagogical narration that is the building blocks required for success in their lifelong education.
Our Purpose
Le Petit Hibou’s program promotes the uniqueness of each individual child by providing an environment that celebrates the acceptance and respect of differences. We achieve this by being flexible and adaptable to each child’s learning needs and following the guidelines within the Early Learning and Development Framework for children aged 3 to 5 years old. We also liaise with the educational staff within the schools where we are located, collaborating with elementary school staff to ensure the students’ readiness for kindergarten.
French is woven into the program through the monthly themes and daily routine. Our goals are for the children to hear the differences in languages, understand the words spoken and to enjoy repeating the sounds to create enthusiasm and curiosity to learn French.

Mission
Le Petit Hibou is dedicated to supporting their community through the subsidization of preschool fees, for up to 6 classroom spaces to children who may otherwise have not been able to attend such a program. Family applications are reviewed by the preschool Manager, and approved by our Board of Directors.
Our
community
Le Petit Hibou Preschool Society is administered by a Board of Directors. The role of the board is to provide governance as per the Society’s Act of British Columbia and ensure financial accountability. This board is made of 5 volunteer voting members; President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and Communications Rep as well as non-voting members; Preschool Manager, Instructors and a parent representative for each class. Each voting board member is elected, as per the Le Petit Hibou Bylaws and agrees to uphold Le Petit Hibou’s Mission, Constitution and Bylaws.

Meet the
teachers
My name is Mme. Jessica and I am the Teacher and Manager at Le Petit Hibou Preschool. I was born and raised in Richmond, BC where I graduated from the French Immersion Program (K-12) in 2003. I got my Associates of Art’s Degree from Langara College before deciding my true passion was Education. I switched into the Early Childhood Education program and graduated in 2010.
My husband Andrew and I have two daughters, Emily and Abigail, who are both in the French Immersion program.

My name is Mme. Michelle and I was born and raised in small town Grand Forks, BC, where I graduated high school. I began my post-secondary school career here in Kelowna, intending to complete my Bachelor of Education. However, my love of preschool-aged children pulled me into the field of Early Childhood Education. I graduated that program in 1994 and still love creating, teaching and loving the students we spend our days with.
My husband and I are the proud parents of two children, Kaylah (25) completing her PHD, and Matthew (22), completing Electrical Engineering.

We feel so lucky to be part of the Le Petit Hibou Preschool community! Our daughter asks us with anticipation every morning if she gets to go to "French school" and can hardly contain her excitement when she arrives. The environment is warm and inviting and has nurtured our daughter's natural curiosity and imagination. We are truly delighted to see how much she has learned since we enrolled her at age 3, and we look forward to her little sister starting when she is old enough.

These women are amazing! They are constantly organizing, planning, caring, and thinking of the kid's first! My daughter was always happy and content, even if she had a tough day the teachers would always let me know if she was having a hard time or was feeling sensitive. We had photo updates in a private parent group which really help ease my worries about being away from my one and only for the first time!

I’ve been with Jessica and Michelle for the past couple of years now with my stepdaughter attending the preschool from age 3-4, who is now in grade 1, and now my son starting his first year with them at the age of 3. I don’t have enough good things to say about this preschool and the amount of love and effort they give to their kids. I have put my full trust in these two amazing souls, and I always know my kids are well looked after and will be taught at the appropriate level while having fun.

We feel fortunate to have been able to send all four of our children to Le Petit Hibou Preschool. Michelle and Jessica have fostered my children's love for learning and even to this day, my children look forward to going to school. The teachers are encouraging, helpful, friendly, and both have hearts of gold. The classroom is absolutely stunning; it's so calm and welcoming. I know that they have provided my child with all the skills he needs to enter kindergarten. We love these ladies. We love this school!
